Geriatrics

Geriatrics, a subspecialty of internal medicine, is concerned with the health and well-being of older adults. Elderly patients tend to have unique health concerns, with many issues occurring at the same time. Physiological differences and the decline of various organ systems are taken into account as are cognitive and affective changes, and the psycho-social, ethical, legal and economic issues that are pertinent to the geriatric patient. In geriatric medicine, in addition to treating the patient’s immediate health issue, the physicians at Porter Physician Group address preventive medicine and the management of patients in long-term care facilities.

Chronic Disease Management

The most encouraging thing about many chronic diseases is that through careful management the family physicians at Porter Physician Group are helping patients live better lives every day.

  • Diabetes – management and monitoring - (Porter also offers special diabetes classes. Visit www.porterhealth.com to learn more.)

Preventive Care & Screenings

One of the best ways to stay healthy is to identify a potential medical problem early and take appropriate actions. Certain diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure do not exhibit symptoms until there is a major problem. By detecting these conditions early we are better able to treat them before they become serious health risks.
